my millionth snow day

this morning J. asked me what i would do with my "snow" day today. i ran through a long list of ideas and his final comment was, "are you going to shower?" HA!

anyway, here's what i actually did:
organized a shoe hanger in the guest room closet to hold games, sports equipment, and... a sleeping bag?!
made a TON of mini posters to hang on my classroom wall.
ironed a katrillion shirts. even though it's unofficially J's job (b/c i'm terrible!) to iron, i decided it would be a nice way to help him out since he had to work today.
re-soaked my crock pot which is still covered in last night's curry. next step: actually wash it out!
and spent way too much time reading every.single.post of this darling blog.

annapolis: food & photos

so here's a play-by-play...
we saw tons of gorgeous homes and realized we would both be fine w/ living in annapolis some day.
i kept noticing shadows in the brilliant sun.
the local hook & ladder had a cutie table out front?!?!
we took a tour of the state house.
we ate bagels, breakfast sandwiches, and coffee here. yum!
we had a late late dinner here.
i begged joel to take a photo w/ me in a store window. but only once :)
we walked and walked some more.
we had breakfast at the famous chick & ruth's. though our food wasn't all that delicious, the ambience was great & it's an annapolis classic.

annapolis: a few details

we had an amazing weekend in annapolis! oh golly it was beautiful. perfect. wonderful.

here's where we stayed. i highly recommend the state house inn. it's in a perfect location. our room was cozy and quiet. the bed was super comfortable. it had everything we needed. plus, we got discount parking!
here's what we did: toured the naval academy. visited the MD state house (which just happened to be 10 feet from our inn). walked by the water. ate a lot (more on that later). took pictures. read a lot. talked. held hands. went to the MD federation of art (also 10 feet from our inn!). laughed.

1.2.3.

oh just a few things.

1. i love this blog and she uses this camera. and i want one. terribly.
2. tonight i'm going to make this recipe. i had planned to repeat the enchiladas from a few weeks ago, but then i found a new food blog this morning and realized i already have the ingredients for something new. hooray!
3. i have the most amazing husband ever. last night i was way too sick to make dinner (again) so he ordered pizza, then brought it up to bed on a tray so we could eat together. he also put the flowers he got me for v-day on the tray so i could enjoy them close-up. love love love love.

sick days

home again for my second sick day. on my to-do list:

sleep some more. take my anti-biotic. drink lots of lemon tea. make some phone calls for my beloved husband. cook dinner for the first time this week. stop by the thrift store to pick up a couple treasures. sleep a little more. finish my book for the book club i wont be attending tonight due to the potential for sharing sicky germs.

funny tidbit:
last night i said to joel, "i think i was delusional this morning. did i do or say anything weird?"

his response: "well, you did mess up my lunch... i don't really like lettuce sandwiches"

haha. what a goofball. i definitely was thinking clearly enough to make him his usual peanut butter. although lettuce would have been a healthy alternative...

so cute!

ummm, isn't this video so darling? i wanna go to paris now!

merry christmas to me

Joel gave me (us?!) tickets to a broadway musical for christmas. it's called "parenting 101" and should be hilarious!! we're driving downtown to the kimmel center after church and going out for a valentines day lunch at one of my fav philly spots, sahara grill.

sooooooo excited to spend an afternoon dressed up. in the city. with my husband.

(no, we will not be wearing our swimsuits. it's not warm enough for that, yet. but i love this picture, so i wanted to add it)

my new watch

meliss bought a sweet red watch from pixel moda a few months ago (right after i bought a professional black watch to wear for teaching, which soon got ruined by paint during a halloween activity... but i digress...) and i have been eye-ing it for a while now.

so 3 weeks ago i went and bought myself a blue one. it was a tiny bit big, but i didn't really mind because the color was cool. unfortunately, it stopped working two days later. i took it back in, they "fixed" it, but then died again.

this morning i went back to exchange it and they had TONS of colors in size small, which fits better than my original watch. hooray.(keeping my fingers crossed that this one doesn't die, too. i would be soooo disappointed!)

what a wake up call

yesterday morning we woke up and joel asked me "how'd you sleep?" (as usual). i said i'd slept fine, but had had a strange dream where i was in the school cafeteria doing a puzzle with my co-worker, amy.

after i told joel about it, i said, "kinda a nerdy dream i guess."

he responded: "kell, i hate to break it to you, but you're kind of a nerd"

haha!!!! i have never had anyone tell me that in my 26 years of life!

3 days in my life

so on monday one of my kids blew in like a thundercloud 15 minutes late. he grabbed his paper off another student's desk during a peer editing session. he whacked his seatmate for making a slightly annoying comment. when i corrected him, he ran out the door, slammed it with all his might, and took off down the hallway. another teacher took him to the principal's office but when he came back he refused to talk and wouldn't tell me a thing about why he was acting so weird. i wrote a note to his dad asking him to call or email me, but didn't get any response.

(also on monday my student didn't show up for what was supposed to be her last day. apparently they moved to montana a little early...)

tuesday two third grade boys knocked on my classroom door to tell me that one of my boys had tried to put their heads in the toilet. my student got called to the principal's office and suspended for two days.

yesterday morning we had a two hour delay. 7 of my 20 students didn't show up. there goes my lesson on fractions. there goes moving forward in our story. there goes prep for the PSSA. today i got multiple letters from parents asking me to excuse their child due to inclement weather. seriously?! you all live within 2 miles of the school building!!

(while i definitely think my posts about teaching would be far more interesting to others if they included photos, it's probably not kosher with my school to put the kids on the internet without parental permission. darn.)
