we just started our poetry unit & so far have covered the haiku & onomatopoeia (i have to remind myself every.single.time. how to spell that dang word!).having just finished two very long weeks (including 6 days of state tests and 21 report card conferences), and having just completed one relatively awful monday, i've decide to practice my poetry here. in the quiet of my office. where my students can't judge me. and their parents can't irritate me with their irresponsibility.
to start, a haiku or two:
oh fourth graders, all
my misery is in you
you bring me such grief.
and yet such sweet joy
you can give if you desire
you make me giggle.
parents of my kids,
i wish you'd show up on time,
keep our appointments.
and nowwwwwwwww some onomatopoeia:
my brain swarms
swoop. flop
with grand schemes & fears & doubts
zooooooooooooom
afraid i've failed. rarely encouraged
i can hear their thoughts hissing inside
as they question rudely and
snap their clothespin
from green to yellow
why do 4th graders still
love sound effects of moooo, meow, woof?
they aren't even impressed their
teacher knows that in japan,
dogs say "won" instead.
[ok. i recognize that my last "poem" is horrendous. haha. i'm clicking "publish post" anyway. and tomorrow maybe my 10 year olds will come up with something more worthy of sharing with the internet world]
