i've found what appears to be a pretty good solution to having no insurance:
1. don't get sick.
2. if you start to get sick, take vitamin C and zinc immediately.
3. get plenty of rest.
4. go to the UPENN dental school for all dental needs.
it's not super convenient but i just take a train downtown, walk 15 minutes, and meet with a student dentist. today james, my own personal dental student, did a complete check of all my teeth. he suggested a new toothbrush [sonicare] to help prevent my gums from receding in the places that are sensitive. he also told me i have 3 cavities i need to get filled and that he'll get me an appointment within the next two weeks. he informed me that they'll cost about 80 dollars each. he was professional. he was hilarious. and my visit didn't cost a single cent. thank you, james, for am hour filled with good and bad news.
after my visit, i stopped at a food cart and got an amazing sweet potato burrito. what a grand afternoon :)
