now that it's sakura season and i'm spending time with j-friends and seeing lots of cherry blossoms, i'm once again nostalgic about my year as a foreigner. two years ago i was in a similar spot: looking for jobs and preparing myself for big changes ahead. now i'm also looking for jobs and expecting changes. but i was also incredibly lonely during that season. i missed my family. i wanted american food. i wanted to hug my friends. i was often bored to tears at work. these days none of those are true. i'm so so grateful for this season.

J. and i are going downtown on sunday to meet 2 of my j-friends for our own philadelphia sakura fest. i'm wicked excited to see the trees in fairmount park and for J. to meet those friends. japan is such an integral part of who i have become.even though nobody can truly understand how i grew and changed during those 11.5 months, i feel like him interacting with my friends and hearing some of our stories will reveal a little more about me. my year there somewhat explains why i am so fascinated by japan, why i am so passionate about education, why i love traveling, and why the idea of living in one place the rest of my life freaks me out...
