feeling the grandmother-less-ness

something bizarre happened the other day.

i was ironing the one shirt i have that needs ironing. i was thinking about the fact that i'm 25 years old and am still really bad at ironing. the following thought entered my mind:

"grandmom loves ironing. i should ask her to teach me to iron."

then.i.remembered.

i should have asked her to teach me to iron. long ago.

dang.

then yesterday i was feeling sad that i haven't gotten any real mail lately. i realized that two of my major letter writers don't send letters any more. the year i was in japan, both my grandmothers wrote to me at least once a week. two less letters a week makes for a pretty pitiful mail collection. double dang.

My grandmother was also an awesome letter writer. Must be the generation? She never missed a birthday or holiday, and always enclosed some clippings of cartoons and coupons from the newspaper that she felt we would appreciate. I miss getting those letters. As Valentines Day, my birthday, Easter, etc. all passed by this year, I noticed missing that consistent card and letter. Wonder if we'll ever forget that...
